The government has recently launched a Homes for Ukraine campaign, calling for sponsors to provide homes or spare rooms rent-free to Ukrainian refugees, for a minimum stay of 6 months. Full details are available on the government Homes for Ukraine webpage.

We strongly believe everyone has a fundamental right to have a safe home, and we will do everything we can to aid our mortgage borrowers and our local communities in housing Ukrainian refugees.

We are pleased to confirm our position for mortgage borrowers who are up to date with their payments, wish to use a spare room for this appeal and are in a secure position so that they can offer a stable home. We do not need to be informed of anyone staying as a lodger in a residential property mortgaged with us, and there are no forms to be completed. Borrowers may need to inform their insurance provider and other relevant parties.

If you are considering taking part in the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
You should take the time to fully understand the scheme and consider how it will impact your home and finances. If your family budget is already squeezed, we ask that you think carefully before applying for this Scheme, and refer to the Money Helper website for free and impartial money guidance.

The government advises it is best to set a few clear expectations between you and your guests, such as drawing up an agreement. This is not obligatory to take part in the scheme but may be useful to establish some ‘ground rules’. Within the government FAQs there is the ability to download an Excluded Licence Agreement for your use.

Finally we advise you to always use the government website for the latest information and to apply for the scheme, and to be aware of any potential scams or impersonation attempts. You will not need to pay a fee to register for the scheme or become a sponsor. Scam attempts can be reported on the National Cyber Security Centre website.

For anyone wishing to donate towards the humanitarian crisis, such as cash payments or for those unable to donate online, we are welcoming monetary donations in our branches for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
