Ipswich Building Society announces summer executive team volunteering scheme for local third sector businesses

Ipswich Building Society has announced a summer volunteering session to be held on the afternoon of Thursday 29th June as part of its executive volunteering outreach to help support local third sector businesses. The Society’s CEO, Richard Norrington, will join Finance Director Kieron Blackburn, General Manager (Retail and Distribution) Jo Leah, General Manager (Risk and Compliance) Mark Nash and General Manager (Operations) Ian Brighton to support a local social enterprise, community interest group or charity with strategic business advice.

Richard Norrington, Chief Executive, Ipswich Building Society, commented: “As a mutual organisation we have a responsibility to support the communities in which we operate, and give something back to our heartland area. Our executive team volunteering scheme is a great, hands on way to offer help to those local third sector businesses who could really do with some extra support with strategic operations.”

The executive team volunteering scheme has proven to be effective for local charities. A previous session carried out at Haverhill charity REACH provided assistance to the organisation to consider its future direction, setting clear business goals and priorities. Commenting on the session, Henry Wilson, Head of Community Projects at REACH, said: “Ipswich Building Society executives helped the REACH team to consider our five year plan. Coupled with the information and guidance provided by the team this will help us to get the most out of our resources and allow us to continue to do all we can to help lift poorer individuals and families in Haverhill out of poverty.  It was especially useful to gain insights about housing associations and this helped us to plan around expanding our housing services in the future.”

This initiative comes as part of the Society’s ambition to be a leading responsible business which, alongside staff volunteering, places a major focus on increasing financial literacy for students in primary and secondary schools as well as adults through sessions in MyGo and at Suffolk prisons. The Society also has a free app aimed at primary school children, “My Puppy: Maths and Money”, available on Apple and Android.

Third sector businesses who wish to apply for executive level volunteering should email [email protected], explaining what their organisation does and what they need from the session. Applications close on 21st June, with the session scheduled to run during the afternoon of Thursday 29th June.
