Great turnout for the Twilight 5k series
Posted: 13th May 2019

On Saturday the Ipswich Twilight 5k series got off to a cracking second year, following its debut in 2018 as a standalone event separate to the popular 10k race.

Many of the races including the 20-30 run, Sub 20 run and Elites races were sold out this year, firmly positioning the race as a popular running event in the Ipswich’s sporting calendar.

Although the weather was damp and a bit chilly to start, it did not deter supporters gathering along the waterfront to cheers on participants of all ages. It soon began to warm up as the sun broke through just in time for the start of the races, which began with the Daily Mile 2k run for school children. This was the first in a series of mixed ability races for runners of all ages and abilities which culminated with the English National 5k Championships at the end of the day.

Nick Goolab and Laura Weightman were crowned as the 5k champions after a thrilling race which saw them achieve times of 13 minutes 34 second and 15 minutes 22 seconds respectively.

Rebecca Newman, a member of our Executive team, was present to show our continuing support for the races and present the awards for the women's 800m and elite races.

Our attention now turns towards the 10k race which is set to sweep through the streets of Ipswich on Friday 26 July – for more info click here or visit the official Twilight website.
