Tour Suffolk’s energy-from-waste facility and see how the waste generates enough electricity to power 30,000 homes.

Arriving at 9.45am for a 10.00am start, members should proceed to level 1 and enter the Orwell Room where you will enjoy refreshments before an introduction to the facility with the chance to ask questions. Members will then be provided with protective wear before entering the main facility, watching first-hand how our household waste is broken down and sorted to generate electricity to the homes of Suffolk. The tour of the facility will last around 1.5-2 hours which includes time in the visitor centre at the end.


When arriving on site, please immediately turn right into the car park after you enter the gates. Please do not drive onto the weighbridge. If you do, please contact the control room via the buzzer located on the weighbridge. Do not attempt to turn round and drive against the traffic without someone directing you to do so. Furthermore, reverse parking is mandatory in car park.



The tour involves a 1.5km walk including over 300 stairs at a height of 23 levels which include mesh walkways. Therefore this tour is NOT suitable for members with mobility restrictions or vertigo. This event is strictly for adults only.


Safety Requirements

Please be advised that legs must be covered at all times – shorts, skirts or dresses are not permitted. Study sensible footwear should be worn – no sandals, flip flops or heeled shoes. Failure to comply with the dress code will result in no admittance to the tour. This is an operational site therefore operational issues will always take priority meaning tours can be cancelled at late notice. This event it strictly for adults only.



Places at this event will be allocated by ballot. Register your interest by clicking below - please note registering does not guarantee you a place on this event.

A ballot will be held following the closing date and members will be contacted to advise whether they have been successful or not in obtaining a place. For joint registrations both members will be allocated places if successful in the ballot. If payment is required for an event, please follow the instructions given upon place allocation.
