How much deposit do I need for a mortgage?

The size of the deposit needed to buy a home can vary substantially depending on the value of the property and the type of mortgage the buyer can afford. We’re happy to chat with anyone to find out the right mortgage situation for them.

  • 95% LTV or 5% Deposit Mortgages

    Finding the right mortgage depends on a number of different factors, one of which is how much of a deposit you have to put down initially. While some people may have half the value of the property already in equity, others might just be taking their first step on the ladder having saved up that precious initial five percent.

    90% LTV or 10% Deposit Mortgages

    As a very general rule, the greater the deposit you can provide, the lower the mortgage rate you may be able to access. If you can put down a larger deposit it’s almost always worth it and should also help to reduce your monthly repayments - but always check mortgage rates carefully.

    85% LTV or 15% Deposit Mortgages

    We know that everyone's situation is different, which is why we offer mortgages tailored to suit a number of different factors. One of the main ones is the size of the deposit you’re planning to put down on your chosen property - and the general rule of thumb is the more the better.

  • Find a mortgage to suit your deposit

    80% LTV or 20% Deposit Mortgages

    We have tailored mortgages to suit people with larger deposits, like if someone has saved hard and managed to gather 20% or more of their dream property’s value. Or perhaps they’ve held a repayment mortgage for a while, so they have sufficient equity in their property and only need to borrow 50% of their property value.
